Help w/ 99 WJ Towing Costs Please
I am going to tow my 99 Grand Chrk with my 04 Silverado. I CAN afford the towbar, but the Baseplates (like the Roadmaster XL #1419-5) are outrageous, $300-450. Any ideas for a cheaper option? I want to be safe but I cant swing $400-500 for this right now. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Got a cheap fix
Got a cheap fix from another wise man. Hit the salvage yard and get a drop down hitch and attach to the front in reverse. He did it, same model WJ as mine. He towed it 600 miles and says he does it across the board with Jeep Shells he uses for parts. Pretty crafty and cheap too. $10-20 at salvage yard. Or heck, even a brand new one for less than $100. Anyway, thanks for responding Turbo X J and Cherokee MIke. I just wanted to share what I found out from others.

Old fart with a wrench
So what is it, you have a ball hitch on the front of the towed jeep? I saw a big Cadillac with a ball hitch on the front of it, but he used it to launch a boat down a ramp by dropping the trailer and swapping ends for better control of the trailer. He said it was so much easier because he could see the boat better. This was a BIG boat too. 21' Cuddy Cabin.
