Help
Ok so I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Jeep with start fine and I'll get moving and at various different times the Jeep will just die out on me and then I can't get it to start again and it almost sounds like I'm out of fuel but I just put 30$ in it last night and it ran fine all last night and most of this morning. I am at a loss. Any ideas??

Just a guess mind you, but it sounds like a failing Crankshaft Position Sensor. It's a magnetic switch that tells the computer when to fire the spark plugs, basically. IF that's what it is, don't cheap out, but buy a genuine Mopar part. Aftermarket ones usually don't last long. Tell whoever fixes it that that's what you suspect. It's about a $50 part.

Your Grand Cherokee has the ability to tell you trouble codes without having a scanner plugged into the OBDII diagnostic port. Do you have a check engine light on? That will indicate the presence of a stored malfunction code if it stays on after the engine is started.
To access the code(s), have a piece of paper and pen handy and you are going to put the ignition key in and turn it on and all the way off three times (don't crank the engine, stop just short of that in the on/run position then back off). On the third turn of the switch leave it in the on position and the odometer screen will display any stored numeric trouble codes.
Write those down and come back for help, good luck.

The fact is a failing CPS won't set a code unless it's failed completely. ANY code won't set unless it's present long enough for the computer to recognize it. You can find out most of the codes from a Google search, but some are manufacturer specific. Any good mechanic should have a DRB scan tool that can pick out pending problems, but you'll probably have to pay for that.
A failing CPS will cause the engine to just shut off with no warning like sputtering or loss of power. Just like you turned off the key. Sometimes it will start right back up, sometimes it has to cool for awhile. In rare cases it will start itself before you stop rolling!
