Hey y’all I’m new to the Jeep scene I just got my first Jeep it’s a 2000 grand Cherokee with the 4.0 it’s trying to run hot and the fan is working there’s no water in the oil but the top radiator hose is hard what should be the problem maybe the thermostat?

 

I've got good advice. Two things to never forget would be to never put your fingers anywhere near the rim when setting a bead putting on a tire. Be careful ever when inspecting up close a hot cooling system the radiator and hoses. Superheated steam can kill you if suddenly released!

Was the upper hose firm when the system was cold too? Hard when hot means your thermostat sounds fine. It's opening. Do you have any status report for its maintenance history? If it is lacking meaningful service, you could need to replace everything? A hard cold upper hose would mean it is probably blocked, or partially blocked.

 

Wait until it's cold. Take the rad cap off and start it up. If the hose gets hard when it warms up, the radiator is plugged.
