The snorkel in front of your air box isn't for ram air, it's to help provide cool air coming through your grill.

i cut the metal plate off right infront of that little lip attached to the air box to allow air to get into the air box. bot im planning on adding vents to scoop air from the top of my hood inside directly on top of my air filter

For what its worth....................
Prior to cutting the box I was getting a consistent 16 mpg.
I have now been through 2 tanks of gas since the cut its at 17.7 mpg.

Im watching and hoping for the time being.

I have installed a 1 inch spacer between the Throttle Body and the "flat" snorkel. Clears the hood with no issues, even after I extend the hold down bolt. I have some combined town/highway driving coming up, so we will see what happens.

So for about 2 hours worth of work I have gone from a combined 16 to almost 18 mpg. Hopefully this change will put me over 18. Not bad for a 15 plus year old 318 Dodge!

Once again its raining like hail in the Rox.

I cut a 1 inch tall piece of galvanized HVAC steel duct work. Overall it was about 24 inches long. I started working it into a circle until I could get a 6 inch hose clamp around it. I then worked slowly and carefully around the Throttle Body, as I slowly closed the clamp down till it fit snugly around the top of the TB. Yes the duct work overlaps considerable. As a prototype, Im not that worried about it. Because 1 edge was not a factory cut, I placed it up, as the bottom of the snorkel has a rubber gasket and can handle a bit of imperfection.

Removed the bracket that holds the hold down screw, and replaced it with a much longer one, then cut it down to 1 inch longer.

If this works I have already researched both a PVC and steel ring that should work. Im hoping to pick up a total of 3mpg between the 2 mods. Finger crossed!

Im at 19.5 mpg.

25% city driving
50% 60mph country roads
25% Interstate 70mph driving.

Started at 16 mpg! Not too shabby!

This is interesting but I would need some proof of these claims.. I haven't heard of anyone getting a 3 mpg increase with CIA that cost $300.. What exactly did you do to your airbox again?

When I bought the car, the owner told me they only averaged 10mpg. The info on the roof, showed a long term average of 9.8 the day i picked it up. Once I started driving it, I coaxed it up to 16mpg. My wife took it across state and got 17.9mpg with 90% interstate driving between 70mph and 80mph.

Coming home tonight, I had a detour off the interstate, and the long term is showing 19.3mpg.

What I did was punch additional holes in the bottom of the air box. These holes line up with holes that are already in the metal that the box mounts too. So it breathes a little easier.

I then built a spacer that is about 5 inches in diameter and 1 inch tall. I mounted this on top of the throttle body, extended the hold down bolt and then reinstalled the factory snorkel

Over this period I have made the same 80 mile run 5 days a week. Used the cruise most of the time, and have avoided flooring it. First and last I have done everything I could to keep my driving constant. So the only that has changed is the air box and the spacer.
Your mileage may vary!

Here is the bottom of the air box, keep in mind the bolts you see are NOT holding onto the box in any fashion. So they leak air also.

Below is the 1 inch spacer for the TBI, it is made out of a 1 inch strip of galvanized AC metal, then wrapped with a large hose clamp to get it down to about 5 inches.
