The great Debate 2000 Limited 4.7 engine
So last weekend I picked up a 2000 JGC Limited with a dead cylinder (4.7). Sounded just like my 03 did when it kicked a rocker arm. So I got it pretty cheap but once I inspected the engine I was able to see that the number 2 exhaust rocker had been kicked off but on further inspection it looks like the valve is not lifted all the way back to it's seated position. So the jeep is in really good shape and only has 130K on it. I needed to move the jeep so I had to put it all back together for now since I will have to do the work at a friends house due to HOA rules. It was getting dark so I could not tell if it was a broken valve spring but I did try to pull it up to see if it would move and it did not. So I'm guessing could it be a dropped valve seat or maybe a bent valve if the rocker arm got wedged just right to where the valve could not close all the way?
Now for the debate. Do I tear the engine apart and get the head checked out or just sell it for what I got in it and keep looking. The main reason is my 03 has 250K on it and I want something with lower mileage. I'm in it for $1500 total including the tow from where I bought it. I did notice the ac wasn't working and I checked it has no freon also the blower fan for the interior isn't working. So there are a few other repairs to be made on top of the engine issue.
Thoughts?

I'm guessing a dropped valve seat. Find someone with a bore-scope and look down the spark plug hole.

My buddy has one so when I get the jeep over to his house I'll take a look. If it is a dropped seat I'm guessing if I decide to repair I should replace both heads with reman ones so parts wise I think I'll be around $1,000-1,100. Between heads, lifters, fluids and gaskets. Not to mention the ac repairs.

I personally would look for a complete 4.7HO out of an 03/04 WJ they had fixed some of the issues with the early model one by then.
In my area I see rebuilt 4.7's for about $1500-$1700 with warranty on them in OKC, OK. Might be an option for you also, I know that I will rebuild my 4.7HO 04/WJ if it ever has any problems I like it 200,000 and counting.
