Default Grand Cherokee moldings/cladding

I am not sure the proper name but the grands have all the grey plastic trim and I have seen a limited with the color matched moldings and they look nice..
Mine are a little faded and I searched on this subject and know the options of restoring or painting.. My question is, has anyone removed them completely and if so is there holes and stuff, how did it look??
I am thinking of painting all my grey trim, black, along with the grill and possibly the wheels... Anyone done this and if so any pics/how did or would it look with a red body and black moldings?? Thanks guys!

there is holes underneath but the body line runs perfectly right above them and can be easily trimmed with a cutting wheel

I'm in the same boat with mine. I've seen two or three other red Laredos and I want to do something different. I may just paint the cladding with some Krylon Fusion and call it a day.

You can freshen it up by using a 50/50 mix of Linseed Oil and Paint Thinner.

have any problems with the paint peeling or chipping? did you prime it first? is there a writeup somewhere on how to take all of the trim pieces off?

I took mine off and there was nipples sticking out of the door, i used a grinder and made them smooth and used some Bondo to fill in the lower spots. I also put bedliner from the windows down

when you guys painted them, did you clean/ pretreat them with something to help keep the paint from chipping?

My grand Cherokee is just a trail rig so i just ripped the cladding off, i think if you slide them up they might pop off. As prep work i sanded the bottom half of my jeep with 80 grit sand paper and then put 2 coats of bed liner on. For the top half i sanded with 320 and used spray paint, again its a trail rig so i dont care. But everything has held up great.

I just picked up a '94 ZJ, that needs a bit of work. The driver side door cladding was removed, and someone had done some previous body work and removed a few of the nipples that hold on the door molding clips. Does anyone know how I can replace them other than putting a bolt through the door which would rather not do?

The bumper covers and moldings will pry off. You can then swap them out for painted ones.
