So I have a 89 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 straight 6 4x4 and when I go to turn the heater control fan switch to vent the air comes out hot, I put a new heater control valve in yesterday. Was wondering if any one new what it might be
I have a 96 ZJ 4.0 with 311,000 miles on it. It finally developed it's first serious leak in one of the crimp joints in the Transmission Fluid Cooler lines. I was able to disconnect and remove the old lines but I'm having trouble figuring out if I can route the new lines past the exhaust pipe without unbolting the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold and dropping the pipe down to give me some clearance. Can the new lines be "fed" along the exhaust pipe and then routed into place?
Also, the book at the local auto parts store recommends Transmax +4 as replacement Transmission Fluid. I had always used Dexron III. Which is better?
I am not getting any power to my wiring harness running to my transmission and the wires look fine so im thinking of changing the ecu that runs it. I am curious what year to what year ecu’s are interchangeable with out reprogramming? I have a 93 grand cherokee 4.0, 231 tcase, im not 100% on what transmission i have tho.
To change out the ECU without any definitive proof that it's bad is not advisable. You should locate a wiring diagram that can be used to troubleshoot the issue until you determine where the cause actually is.Just my opinion though. I hate chasing issues with money.

Believe me i hate chasing issues with money too. How would i go about to finding the right wiring diagram? Would it be based off the year of the car or the type of transMission? The issue im having its stuck in limp mode, just installed my rebuilt transmission and it wont shift out of 1st. Took it to the guy that rebuilt it n he checked it with the volt meter And none of the plugs on my wiring harness are getting any power. Checked the codes that blink on the over drive light and its says nothings wrong. Its been sittin a lil while while i saved up the money to get the trans rebuilt.
Not sure if this is the right place or not. I just bought a 2018 JGC, Altitude. Trying to learn about it, only had it a few days. So far, I see I have to put a hitch on it (for my bike rack). Just noticed the roof rack (which really isn't any kind of rack at all - it's useless as is.) This was a surprise as I have always had very substantial and useful roof racks on my previous cars, as standard equipment. Kind of odd I thought.
Am I alone in this view? What do people do if they want to actually carry something on the roof without damaging it?
Thought id post here first before I make a thread. My steering box is staring to go, leaking gasket, play in the steering. Would you guys recommend a refurbished steering box? Iv read iffy reviews on them, if you guys do which ones would you recommend?
Are xj steering box's compatible with a wj? I ask because I read a lot of people will put Durango steering box's in theirs. What would be compatible with a 2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo.
Hi all, recently purchased a 98 Grand Cherokee ZJ and have some wiring questions, I know not fun....
1)Behind the glove box I found this pink/black wire not plugged into anything. What is this for and it supposed to be plugged in?
2) Behind the cigarette lighter dash, there is a orange/green and red/black wire plug unplugged which I found where it should be plugged in. What does this do?
Where it should be plugged into.
3) The owner before me installed a usb plug in place of something I’m not sure what was once there? I still have my cigarette lighter next to it. He spliced some wires into the harness posted below. From what it seems, there should two orange and two black wires coming from the male end of the plug and theres also a red/bluish purple which are all OEM. The owner previously changed red/purple/bluish connecter on it for a switch. The additional two black wires look spliced in which I plan removing that arent OEM. Where is this red/bluish purple wire supposed to connect into?
This is the tag on the wire.
Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated! I tried being as detailed as possible.

Looks like he took out the cigarette lighter. The power outlet isn't supposed to be used for the cigarette lighter, I'm not sure if it will even work. You can find the factory service manual online: https://cardiagn.com/1998-jeep-grand...ce-manual-pdf/
Wire colors should all be listed in the wiring diagrams.
