Looking at a 2010 Grand Cherokee 4x4. It has the 3.7l and 97xxx miles. Does anybody know good/bad about this engine and vehicle combo? Thanks for any info.
Ok, first post so please take it easy on me! My wife's 2012 grand Cherokee with a Hemi has selec trac on it. Well, the other day it starts flashing for no reason on selections such as sport, snow, etc. took to dealer to hook up and nothing is showing. They said could be bad switch so instead of spending $600 for labor and switch I got a tested one from junk yard and put in. It is still flashing??? Anyone heard of or seen this? Am I missing something? Frustrated! Thanks for any help!
What's flashing? Check engine light? 4WD indicator? Traction control light?

The 3.7 liter is the 4.7 liter's little brother. It's a 90 degree SOHC v6 with a cast iron block and aluminum heads. Bore is the same on the 4.7 and the 3.7 at 3.66". Stroke is a little longer at 3.57" (3.45" for the 4.7). A a counter-rotating balancing shaft is mounted between the cylinder banks to counteract the vibration problems with a 90 degree v6 and 30 degree split pin crankshaft is used to fire the cylinders every 120 degrees. 210 hp and 235 lb/ft torque - which is an improvement over the 190hp and 230 lb/ft that the 4.0 I6 in previous versions of the GC puts out. HOWEVER, that boost in power and torque is sharply absorbed by the additional weight of the WK (2005-2010 Grand Cherokee).
Biggest inherent issues with the 3.7 (and common with the 4.7s early years) were faulty valve seats which leads to dropping valves, and sludge buildup in the motors from small drain holes in the block.
Just be cautious and look over everything carefully. Take the Jeep to a mechanic with a good reputation that is knowledgeable and trustworthy and have them thoroughly inspect the motor.
I personally wouldn't buy anything with the 3.7 in it, but others here that have that motor may have better insight and experience with it that nullifies my research on it.

Basslicks, the lights flashing are on the selec terrain itself, no check engine, no lights on dash, lights just keep flashing on the selec train dial on the center console. Dealer could find no codes, said it was bad switch, but evidently not?

Well hard to tell since the selection stays on auto which kicks in if need be. But 4 low does not now that I can tell. Any light will flash, then rock snow mud and sand flash together.

Well, hard to tell without knowing if it's actually shifting into 4wd or not, but it [i]sounds['i] like it's the 4wd actuator motor. If you have a helper, try removing the actuator from the transfer case, then have your helper go through the 4wd modes and see if the motor cycles. If it doesn't, you know what the problem is.

Well with the selec trac it it stays on any and shifts in if needed. I do know that 4wdlow will not light up. Where exactly is that located on these models? Anything major that you have to do to get to it or do? Thanks!

Honestly don't know. Haven't had to mess with one personally. If I had to guess, I would say it would be located somewhere on the driver's side of the transfer case.
Hi Guys, new to forum. Trying to remove alternator on 99 Grand Cherokee. It has a bushing at the back of the alt that is pushed in so far it prevents the alt from lifting out.
I can't figure out how to push it back past the bracket.
It is the hex nut at top right in pic one. You cannot put a wrench on it, there is a stop beside it, plus it is not threaded to turn, it is pressed in.
Any ideas Thanks
Ps....pic is spare alt, mine is on the car
I have something new today. Has anyone had their GC shake, and make bunch of noise after going through 8-9" of water? It scared the hell out of me at first, like a motor mount broke, making scraping noises, shaking like crazy, then nothing. I had issues last year with ice but not like this. I have it thawing out, but has anyone had anything similar to this after drudging through some water?
