So I dropped my Fuel Cell to address some surface rust under my 96 ZJ and broke the exit line off the fuel pump. Ordered another fuel pump and cleaned out my fuel cell while I was at it. I ordered an AutoBest pump from Rock Auto. When it came in the first thing I noticed was the Exit Port was straight up and on the original pump it was 90* or horizontal and the original fuel line hook up on the vehicle wouldn't work with the new pump either. Thinking that it must still work, after all they said it would RiGhT I'll just use flex line and clamps so I let it go. I install the new pump in the fuel cell and do a dry fit up under the Jeep and find I only have about 3/4" to 1" MAX clearance between the bottom of the Jeep and the top of the fuel exit line that points straight up. I highly doubt there is enough room to make that turn with flex fuel line without crimping the line. Has anyone else run into this issue and can you shed a light or two on how you addressed it?
As long as you haven't gotten it wet yet, send Rockauto an email explaining your problem. They will usually send you another Next Day Air to get you going and you send it back as defective or wrong.
I had this happen with a rear brake cylinder that leaked as soon as it was pressurized. I had to reinstall the old one for one day! It wasn't even their fault, but the fault of the manufacturer! In over 50 orders, that's the only bad part I've gotten from them.
Rock Auto said I got the right pump. AutoBest, the manufacturer, said I got the right pump. There is only 1 pump available for the 96 ZJ and that's the only vehicle it fits! Autobest was very accommodating looking to see if there had ever been a problem or if they had ever gotten this question before and the answer was no. Anyhow I don't feel comfortable sticking a fuel line on there and shoving it up against the bottom of the Jeep so I ordered a pre-bent 90* 8mm fuel line off Ebay and depending on how it fits I may nip the top of the pump hookup about a 1/4" with my hose cutter just for a little more clearance.
Did you check the box real well? Sometimes they are universal and come with a bag of adapters to make it fit different models. There might be a 90 degree quick connector adapter in there. I ran into this several times now on other makes and models.

Yes, I thought the same thing and I also asked AutoBest when I had them on the phone. It didn't come with anything else accept for the seal. I get my 90* elbow's tomorrow and I'll post some pictures when I get them.
