Looking for some info on fuel injectors and the problems that arise from them....
I heard of two main problems fuel injectors cause, please let me know if I heard right.
First problem is apparently readable with a multi meter, I was told to turn it to ohms and stick the probes into certain spots on the injector, write down the resistance number and repeat with all the other injectors... a goofy number in comparison to the others will indicate a bad injector.
the second problem I heard of was an apparent o-ring that gas could possibly be leaking past
I have this jeep... it stalls.... ALOT
after it stalls and while Im trying to restart it all I smell is fuel.
right now I can drive about 20min before the jeep starts acting up and it has to sit all day before I can drive another 20 with out stalling... basically I can make it to work and back but it is getting worse by the day
with the fuel smell, Im thinking for some reason my plugs are deciding not to fire once the engine gets hot which could mean several other components are failing or somehow the engine is getting too much fuel. leaky injectors? I don't know.
the fuel smell is suspicious to me. can anyone tell me about the fuel system and how my motor maybe getting too much gas after a certain point?

After looking at your Profile I see you have the 4.0. Always helps to add critical info like that to your post.
Common problem on the 4.0 running rich and smelling fuel is the MAP sensor. Check the vacuum line that runs from the throttle body to the MAP. Make sure it is not loose on either end or cracked anywhere.
Best of luck.

There are quite a few things that will make these GC's simply shut off while driving, and/or start missing, spitting, stumbling, backfiring then die, as I have learned by reading forums since getting my '97 at the end of April.
Last Saturday, mine began the "just shut off while driving" episodes. I cleaned the body ground by the battery and the 2 on the passenger side of the engine and it ran fine, until last night. Ran fine to work and back today, 22 miles total.
There are fuel injector O-rings that seal the injector to the port in the intake manifold. They're on the outside of the injector. These wouldn't cause excess gas to leak into the engine, but would let air get sucked in and make it run bad. I'm not sure if there are O-rings inside the injectors, they would have to be tiny, I imagine.
Other things I've read that cause dying problems:
-bad battery cable connections (I can attest to this one);
-shorted wires in the sensor electrical system (I can attest to this one);
-a bad sensor;
-loose connections in the wiring connectors to the computer (PCM)
-a PCM on its way out
-low transmission fluid
-blocked/plugged/damaged transmission cooler causing the fluid to get too hot (or crushed coolant lines)
-crankshaft position sensor (CPS) going out/is loose/has metal shavings on it/has a bad connection or short in the wires
-bad connection/short in the wires to the fuel pump
-fuel pump going bad (like in your case, it runs a while, gets hot, and the plastic starts gumming up and stops turning)

The internal parts of the injectors are not serviceable. One thing you can try is a junkyard set. Bustedback got some injectors from a couple of Dodge Neons and is happy with them. He mentioned something about cargo pockets?

Yep, cargo shorts are the perfect thing to wear to the boneyard. Gotta love the cargo short discount!

There you are! I hope you're no mad at me for giving away your trade secrets. I love the idea. We used to steal the valve cover spring washers from the Corvairs. They worked perfectly on small blocks to spread out the pressure of the valve cover bolts. Also the air filter nuts from Fords. They were huge and worked better on our Chevys. My buddy said that was the only GOOD thing Ford made. LMAO!
