I have a 1997 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0l

I need to replace the catalytic converter, and also want to install Flowmaster Super 44 exhaust on it.

Can the Super 44 be put on a 97 4.0? And do I need just the muffler or an entire system?

You can do just the muffler, not a problem. You may get tired of the sound after a while, but it should sound good.

 

Can I just bolt it on to the new cat and pipes? Or does it need to be welded on?

You can do it yourself, as long as you have a random supply of exhaust parts from a local parts store.

The things you are going to run into with the muffler is the in/out on the super 44 may not match the size of your tail pipe. The length of the super 44 may not be the same as the factory muffler. so you may need to add or take away tail pipe, along with adding reducers or couplers to match the pipe to muffler. Im not sure of the in/out size options on the super 44, but most flowmasters I have seen are at least 2.5" in/out. Your jeep is something like 2" or 2-1/4" pipe.

 

I would have a shop do it. I've done exhaust work in the past, and even though stuff may only be clamped together, it can be a pain in the butt getting things to come apart without destroying something. For around 50 bucks (not including the Flowmaster) you can have it done with no headaches.

 

Basically this except they do make the Super 44 in a 2.25" which is what your factory exhaust size is.

Part # 942447 is what I ship out with the kits I sell.

Well I was thinking of doing the same for my 2000 XJ. Installing the Super 44. I looked around on the internet but could not find a kit for a 2000 model. Does Flowmaster make a Super 44 exhaust kit for a 2000 XJ sport?

I saw just the flowmaster boxes for around $75-80 but not sure if or what part number would fit mine and if I would need anything else besides just cutting out the old muffler and clamping the flowmaster box in place and using existing exhaust pipe to come out the back.

If anyone can tell me what I need to make this happen and how to do it I would appreciate it. Thanks.

 

I just called a local shop today. They quoted me $145 out the door for the flowmaster, adding in about a foot of pipe, and labor, everything welded. I did not think that was too bad. I may just go that route as I don't like clamping the exhaust together if I don't have to.

 

Shop around, maybe supply your own muffler to keep the mark up to a minumum.

I think I like the sound of the Super 40 better. I priced it online and the best I can come up with is $85 with free shipping. Not sure how much that guy will charge to install it if I bring my own.

Something tells me the same amount so he does not lose money.

 

flowmaster40 sounds so much better ,sounds deaper ,i have 2 jeeps with both the 40 an 44 an hands down the 40 is better..an autozone 100 bucks
