I have a 95 ZJ Limited 4.0L with the OEM passive security system which seems to work well except for every once in a while it appears that the engine hoot sec. switch sets off an alarm.
So I've been leaving the hood unlocked with only the spring loaded J hook latched. Leaving the engine hood unlock prevents the passive security alarm from going off in the middle of the night and sometimes during the day.
I tried cleaning the hood switch, removing it, re-installing, etc. but the alarm goes off every once in a while usually within a few days. Sometimes a few hours.
I wasn't able to find an oem part number. I suppose if I could find a very similar switch may work but the hood needs to close and compress down on the switch a certain amount in order to keep the switch closed.
I'm uncertain if there's something wrong with the switches internals that causing the switch to open. The existing switch and how the hood closes on the switch all seem to be ok.
Before I try another solution I thought I would first try and find a new oem security switch for the engine compartment.
One is able to activate the passive sec. alarm with the engine hood opened but I would like it working again as it should be.
Here's what my hood switch looks like. The part in the middle doesn't move and work as a plunger. The one I have the thick lower part of the switch works as the plunger and the middle part is stationary. So I don't think the your door ajar / hood switch would work as mine doesn't have a long plunger in the middle.
I think I found an illustration of the switch but not the part number. As stated previously the switch I have, the top part doesn't move or plung, only the thicker part of the switch plunges.
Sorry, I don't recall if the center plunger on the new part extends above the outer cylinder.
The parts manual for our vehicles has lots of typos on the page w/ this part.
Just take a look the next time you open the hood. Push down on the switch to determine if the entire switch (the thicker part) moves up and down vs a plunger in the middle.
If the thicker part moves up and down and doesn't use a plunger that extends above the switch, then your switch should work ok, otherwise it's probably too tall for my hood.

My outer cylinder and inner plunger may be moved independently.
