First post !!!!
This might turn into a long winded essay but ill try to keep it short.

Had my 2004 grand cherokee for a year now. Only used mainly for hauling my atv's around. But with this winter here in Canada it's getting a lot of snow time. Anyway, the other day I notice as I open my door late at night none of the interior lights come on. I do some checking and find all the lights will come on with the individual switches but the trunk light will not turn on. I get a new light replace it and low and behold it still does not work. I check the switch on the signal stalk and it does everything it is supposed to BUT turn on the interior lights. I open all 5 doors one at a time and even though the overhead display says that the door is open the light will not come on. Do a little research and find it could be a fuse #7, i think it was, and it is fine.

I have had some wiring issues in the door boots but taken to a mechanic to patch the broken wires ( maybe one has come loose again? ). SO I get my trusty circuit tester and volt meter to do some more in depth trouble shooting while car is warming up . I open trunk door and get ready to pull the light pod, and as i look up at it it mockingly comes on much to my surprise. Looking at rest of the lights they also have come on. I thought MAN I"M GOOD!!!! I get in drivers seat and wait 5 s for lights to go out, and they do, open door a few more times and everything works.

Get home open door ... and arrrgh no lights back to start !
Summary: stalk won't turn on the lights doors wont open lights lights all work individually with the switches.

my guess . broken/ lose wire and faulty dimmer controls on stalk ??? Any other suggestions ?

any help greatly appreciated

Signed,
Cold in Canada

Open, clean and inspect the connectors on the BCM. Mine was doing basically the same thing, but the lights would come on when you turned the ignition key with the door open. Reading the FSM told me all that stuff was controlled by the BCM.

Did you try to push on the lens/dome for the light over the rear hatch yet? That's how I enable/disable the interior lights in my WJ via the rear hatch.
