Default electric cooling fan wiring.

Hi all new to the site and am hoping some one could help me out. I've got an 2004 grand Cherokee laredo. 4.0. My electric fan is not working causing overheating. So ordered new one online. Went to install it and found the wiring harness on old fan is a 3 wire plug and new fan is 2 wire plug. I'm guessing the 3 wire is ground, temp sensor, and a/c. And 2 wire is ground and temp sensor. I really don't want to have to send back this fan and order another that's twice as much money so I'm wanting to just wire this one in. So question is, will this work? Can I just put temp sensor and a/c wire together? And is there any wiring diagrams showing what wire is which? Any help is appreciated.

I would send it back and get the correct fan. The three wire fan may be a two speed unit.

That's what I was thinking also but I think the high and low is all controlled by 2 resisters. Then there could also be a separate wire for each speed. Just frustrates me that the 3 wire fan is $200. And the 2 wire was $69

The reason it's more expensive is there are 2 sets of windings in the motor.

Thanks Dave1123. New there had to be something to make it that much more. Yeah I'd like to just keep the one I got and make it work but sounds like I'll be better of sending it in and getting the right one.

while I got a couple of you guys attention. Where is a good place to find decent priced WJ parts. I've got my 04 laredo with the 4.0. This is my second WJ my last had the 4.7. Great vehicles. Would like to try get a little more power out of the old straight 6 Im not expecting to get a big gain just a little more pep. There such a Damn good motor just wish there was a little more a guy could do to them.

I've heard them called "the tractor motor" by old guys because they have lots of low end torque. You're right though. They are lacking in "spunk"!

I'm 68 so my rubber-burning days are long gone. I did have a 67 Camero SS with 4.10 Posi, three leaf rear springs, traction bars and headers once upon a time. That was not a car, it was an animal with teeth!

Try rockauto.com or jeep4x4.com. The latter is actually Morris 4X4. They've got the parts but not the price you want.
