dash lights dim will not get brighter

Hi, I recently got my first jeep (a 1998 ZJ) and I noticed that all my dash lights and the over head console lights are very dim I can get them brighter but only for a moment by wiggling the interior light control switch and all of the dome lights do not work I have checked the fuses they all are fine I am really stumped on this one

Replace the interior lighting switch. The dome lights will come on with the switch in the extreme upper position and will NOT come on in the extreme lower position. I got a junkyard switch for my 97 that worked for a little while, but you really need a new one.
