hey,

need some help with issues ive had with cruise control and initial start.
Ive got 2002 laredo, the cruise control doesnt stay on. it might initial turn on but wont stay on and turns itself off by itself.

second issue is it will never turn over on initial attempt but will always turn over on the 2nd or 3rd attempt. once started if i was to shut car off and start it up again it will start with no problems but given time from shut off it will go back to not starting on first attempt again. once running there are no issues.

any help to solution or to thread with solution would be greatly appreciated.

How old is the battery and how clean are the connections? You may have a failing stop light switch that shutting the cruise off. Any check engine light?

 

The second issue sounds to me like you're loosing fuel pressure after shutdown. You probably have a leaking injector or bad check valve in the fuel pump.

 

I will have to agree with Busted on cruise issue. My 97 ZJ i had problems with the cruise when I first got it. I would have to pull up on the brake peddle before it would turn back on after shutting off on it's own.

 

nah theres not check engine lights. car runs brilliantly once started. im not sure on battery age, but connections looks good. i will reply again tomorrow when i can get the details on when the battery was last replaced.

i had some advice on the issue from a jeep dealership to look at the crank position sensor. after replacing it it seemed to solve the issue, but after letting the car off for a couple more hours it didnt turn over initially again, but it has seem to improve the issue quiet a lot. It has obviously helped the issue but has not completely resolved it.
