Willys55 - I've been looking at different lube possibilities for the 249, because my GC needs it changed, and a friction modifier in there too. Do you think the Lucas semi-syn atf, which is Mer III/ Dex is okay? Here's the spec sheet- http://www.lucasoil.com/images/media...thetic_atf.pdf and the product info http://www.lucasoil.com/products/dis...show&headTitle= - Lucas Semi-Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid .

If not, is there a particular product you'd recommend?
More than 90 percent of the time I go with OEM recommended fluid type. When possible I even USE the OEM fluids. However I do tend to lean towards the Lucas products when servicing my vehicles, because the Customer goes home and I have to live with the wife (nag nag nag) if it makes a single sound or smell.

Thanks for your response. I can understand that- I did the same. But in my case, it was my client's drivers or my truck driver employees complaining of smells or noises, most of which were entirely normal. They weren't mechanics or Jeep owners either. ;-)

I know my VC heats up after extended driving in the summer, so while our friend here is changing fluids, it would be good if he uses something with a good friction modifier, which may prolong his 249 transfer case. I just wanted to make sure there was no issue with using the MerIII/ Dex in a 1994-95 GC 249 TC.

Improvement is good. It may get a little better over the next 2-3 days.

Is the noise definitely in the rear?

Default creeking sound at rear passenger side

hi...i'm no mechanic what so ever....i'm even new to driving and owning a vehicle!

even new to this forum!

i own a 2000 grand jeep cherokee laredo, and lately when i would start driving forward, it would make this ugly creeking sound at the rear passenger side...once i would get going it would stop but it would creek when i'd just be taking off, or if i just keep driving slow....it wouldn't be a constant creek...but like some kind of rotational creek that would get faster as i would speed up then it would jsut stop creeking when i pick up speed...

i hope this is something easy i can just fix myself!

thanks!
