Hello Jeep fam, I have a 93 zj with the 5.2 I currently have a coolant leak, I know exactly where it’s coming from, it’s coming from the timing cover. I’ve temporarily fixed it. But my dilemma is that I’ve noticed that when I floor it, it starts to leak! Once it’s cooled down, it stops leaking! Another issue accompanied with this is, is that when I floor it, it won’t shift up to the next gear once I’ve gotten off the gas, the rpms just keep rising. So the interesting thing here is, why does it leak when I’ve floored it and not during normal driving? And could the transmission not shifting properly and the leak be intertwined?

 

It sounds like it.. But, are you 100% certain the coolant is leaking from the timing chain cover? It could be coming from somewhere else still, and only look a whole lot like it is from the timing chain cover.

Have you checked and verified proper torque of the covers bolts. Or, tried tightening those timing chain cover bolts down a little bit snugger yet? Otherwise, I think a new timing chain cover gasket may be in order. Fix this issue and then work on the other is what I would do.
