yeah ymmv....ive had zero issues with my dana 35s...but would prefer the 8.25

You know, I drive a jeep with the 42re in it and I've got 199K miles on it with no problems yet. It's all in how you treat it. Go beating on it and yeah, it will grenade. Slam it into drive while rolling backward fast and that's a sure way to screw it up. When it's really cold out, allowing it to warm for a couple of minutes in neutral helps extend it's life. I'm 71 years old, but I don't drive like I am. Of course, I don't drive like a 20-something either.

I'm so sick of people saying the 42re is junk! Admittedly, it's not the strongest kid on the block, but just keep that in mind! It's strong enough for the 4.0, but I wouldn't put it behind a V8.
