Had a bad alternator. Car would start but no charging voltage to the battery. Checked with meter. Took tools and replaced the alternator. After hooking up the battery the lights start flashing which I think is the security system. Went and locked the doors and then opened the driver door and lights stopped flashing. I go to start and the engine just turns over like it was out of gas. I tried locking the doors again and making sure the security light was flashing. I then opened the door and tried it again.... the same thing...just turns over and over and never fires.
Could it just be a coincidence that the coil went out or is there something with the computer etc. since the battery was disconnected for about a week.

Second question: What is that box under the battery box that had a vacuum line attached to it? I pulled the line off it and it sounded like an escape of air.

2nd question; that's a vacuum reservoir for the heater control and cruise.

The vehicle will be "happy" for extended periods w/o a battery, then start w/o issues once the battery is replaced.

Measure the fuel pressure on the rail w/ the ignition switch in the run position.

You need to poke around with a volt meter to see if you have voltage where you should when the key is on. Like the coil. Sounds like the + cable is not connected to the under hood fuse block. Check fuses. This requires moderate level of skills.
