I have a 2004 G.C. that I just rebuilt the motor (4.0) and tranny (auto) on. I wanted to check the timing but ran into problems when I went to use my timing light. There are no spark plug wires for one thing.
I also read online that the timing cannot be adjusted ?
It runs fine but I noticed that once in awhile it "cough's " when I go to start it. Any help ?

It seems you got the cam sensor base and pulse ring installed properly and that's all that matters. The PCM takes care of the rest. If it wasn't right, it wouldn't even start.
Timing is not adjustable on any OBD1 or 2 Jeep. It is controlled by the PCM.
The PCM adjusts timing based on sensor input.
If you have a timing problem it's a result of a signal (or lack there of) from 1 or more sensors.
An OBD2 scanner is crucial to diagnosing the problem.
