Default Shifting problems

I have a 97 Cherokee Sport 2WD 4.0L. In drive from a dead stop, it takes a bit to get up to speed. But if I manually shift it from 3-2-D it gets up and goes like it should. I have watched on You tube videos on how to adjust the TV cable. No luck. I have been told by some others it could be the kickdown solenoid. What is this solenoid, and where is it located? A picture would also be helpful. Thanks.

Try replacing the trans fluid & filter/screen. Then see if the shifting is better. If it's still shifting the same/slightly better, check the TPS (throttle position sensor). These 2 steps will typically resolve shifting issues. Solenoids are pretty durable and are not typically the cause of shifting issues. Start with the simple things first.

Sorry for the edit. Too many irons in the fire today...

Default TPS

Thanks, will try that. Where is this TPS sensor? Where can I find a picture of it so I will know it when I see it?

If, after replacing fluid/screen, you find you must replace the TPS, I would strongly recommend the OEM unit. Aftermarket electronics typically function poorly.

No need to change the filter,,its just a screen and does not filter like a fuel filter or oil filter needs to.. its purpose is to just keep large junk out of the trans.. A few good drain and refills will be fine.. Look at this link
