A/C stuck on defrost
Hey guys, so I just bought a 2000 JEEP CHEROKEE and it has an issue with the A/C. It's stuck on defrost and through research I've narrowed it down to the blend door actuator or stuck or broken blend doors. Where is the blend door actuator in my 2000 JEEP CHEROKEE and how do I get to it and where are my blend doors and how do I get to them? Thanks 😊

First check the vacuum diagram under the hood, trace down the line that goes into the cabin and verify it's not disconnected or broken. After that I can't offer much help, never done the job. I do know on the Liberty's there were huge issues with the defective blend doors and there are aftermarket fixes for them.

I have replaced the blend doors on my 2000 WJ.
You can get a repair kit - to fit the new parts you cut - very carefully - an access hole in the side of the plastic heater box - there are various youtube clips to show how its done.
I used a fine tipped cordless soldering iron to cut through the plastic, quite a slow process but a lot less messy than using a Dremel or similar type tool.
Edit : Found this clip on YouTube which shows how it's done :

Its a monster of a job,You have to remove the whole dash to get to the heater box its a 12 hour job,Doing so you will have to discharge the ac system. While your in there i would replace the heater core and the ac evaporator.

As stated above, make sure the vacuum supply line is hooked up and make sure the vacuum reservoir isn't cracked. Check the simple things first before you start pulling the dash out. A proper diagnosis will save you more than jumping to conclusions.

First of all, the blend door on the 2000 Grand Cherokee is actuated by an electric stepper motor, not vacuum. The motor is behind the glove box on the outside of the heater box. Take out the screws and check if the plastic shaft is broken. If it is, you can cut a hole in the heater box and install a repair door. This is if it's a single control heater. If it's dual zone control, there are 2 doors and the heater has to come out to work on the rear door actuator. THAT requires the dash be removed.
The blend door only controls temperature of the heat. The mode control sends the heat to various places and that is vacuum controlled. The dual zone heater is a pain to repair because everything is electronically controlled automatically just by setting the temperature.
The best thing you can do is download a Full Service Manual from pacificcoastmanuals.com for $7.99+tax. It's 93mb of pdf files and covers everything on your jeep. These are copies of the Factory Service Manuals used by the dealer service techs. They are year-specific so you don't have to paw thru them to find stuff about your particular jeep. It's the BEST manual I've EVER seen! DO NOT try to print out the whole thing because you'll go thru about a ream of paper and a couple of ink cartridges! Just print out the sections you want and you can throw them away when you're done if you want.

Yeah, and it's not a REAL jeep unless it's a Wrangler!
