A/C clutch removal
Thanks, yeah that's probably it. Too bad it's just slightly less than an entire compressor! WTF?! Anyway, at least I won't have to evacuate, flush and recharge the system this way, right? Thanks again for the help!

Glad to help... I agree on the cost a little over half of the price of the complete compressor!

Hi guys
Any advice how to remove the centre screw?
I tried a socket but the whole clutch spins.
My problem is that the clutch does not engage properly, it seems that the magnetic force is too week.
I believe that there may be some washer/spacer under but I cannot remove the face plate.
Any suggestion would be appreciated, as I live and drive in a rather hot end of the world
Thanks
Cris

I tried to use an oil filter grip but did not work.
I managed to undo the screw by jamming a flat screwdriver under the clutch plate. The screw shows traces of thread lock on it.
The clutch plate was not moving out from the centre guide axle and i spent a lot of time prying it from every side until I managed to take it out.
Very rusty plate, I could not see the counterpart in the body but I suspect is similar.
I put a few drops of engine oil in the sliding part and put it back.
Now it engages fine and the aircon test produced cold air through the vents.

Should I clean the plates or the rust allows it to better engage?
Should I secure the screw with thread lock? I am reluctant to do it if I need to undo it again.
Thanks to all that read this and Merry Christmas!

There are several grades of Loc-Tite. Use one for vibration protection, not a permanent lock.
