I just replaced the rear rotors and pads on my 2001 Grand Cherokee and now they grind slightly / squeel all the time while driving??? What could it be? It's driving me nuts !
I'd like some ideas before I pull everything apart again.
Thanks in advance.

IIRC.. Either they aren't seated right, or new pads are just making a little contact which is normal.. Someone will give you a more honest answer.

Try lubeing the slider pins well. If they are ceramic pads, you might have to live with the squealing while driving, but should be quiet when braking. They take a while to wear in.
Any part of metal surfaces that can vibrate against each other would most likely cause a squealing like piston to the back of the pad, the little hardware clips on the caliper/bracket. And just as said above, some new pads just make noise until they warm up.

When I redid all my rotors and pads all around on my 01 xj, I had to break them in. I remember squealing and a bad smell. You want the material from the brake to cos the rotor for proper use. Iirc its called mating but I really can't remember the process name. A way to speed up the process is to speed and slam on the brakes, in a safe and unoccupied area, I.e a closed parking lot
Another thing that might be the grinding is the sticky rust preventative that they put on rotors when they store them. If you haven't sprayed them down with brake clean then maybe the pads are grabbing super hard and causing the grinding?

My 2000 WJ never had a problem like this until I switched from semi-metallic pads to ceramic pads. Now my fronts are squeaking when rolling at low speed and the wheels are covered in brake dust. I'm about ready to yank them off and go back to the semi-metallics. Both my front calipers and rotors were new and the rear rotors were new when this started. I even changed the brake hoses because I thought they might be collapsed inside. Someone suggested using that blue membrane stuff on the outer pads, but that's tough to do because the pads go into the bracket before the caliper goes on.
