Question Belt issues

'93 laredo 4.0l w/AC I had a problem with my belt shredding just now and am pretty sure it's the idler pulley but it could be the A/C pulley. I never use the A/C anyways so is it possible to take the A/C off and buy a non A/C belt along with a new Idler pulley and re- route it? From what I've read so far half think you can and half don't. Any help would be appreciated.

You will need a bypass pulley.

I would check the A/C bolts for loose. It my be going at angle and cutting the belt. The Alt. bracket will do the some thing. I never heard of pulley by it self being bad unless froze up or being hit by some heavy object. The tensioner pulley will go bad with time ( out of alignment) and will begin to damage the belts.

when you don't use the AC the compressor pulley is just like an idler pulley. No drag.
Remove the belt and check all pulleys by hand. Check the multi-V condition and replace if necessary. Tighten to specs.
