Default Ball joints?

IM pretty mechanical, if I rent a ball joint press or remover from auto store can I do them myself? I have a shop with air tools and goodies, so I've got what need to do it or does it take a industrial high dollar press to do them. And if u have done them yourself please give me some pointers

yes you can do them yourself. pretty easy. press them out and press them in. sometimes hitting the knuckles with a BFH will help to unseat them

Ok I watch a video on YouTube seems pretty easy, when he put the new one in it had like some red grease on it. What kind of grease is that, like bearing grease?

Just a tip, once you tighten up the ball joint press, keep whacking on the press with your BFH. Using the press alone to take the BJ's out is just asking for a "press disaster". Tighten it a turn or so, give it a whack, then keep repeating until the BJ pops out.

So on video the guy takes the hub and axel out then the spendle. Doesn't that hub assem have to be pressed back in? Can I just take the entire spindle and assembly off then do the ball joints or can I not brake loose ball nuts unless the axel is out?

No the hub/bearing assembly is held in place by three 1/2"-12 point bolts on the back side facing the axle. Loosen the boltsabout half way, then tap them lightly on the head to start the hub to push out. Tap all three bolts evenly to avoid wedging the hub in the spindle

I sprayed mine with PB Blaster everyday for 3 days before i did the job. I found that a 1/2" drive, 1/2" deep 12 point socket on a breaker bar worked best to get them loose. When you jack up the jeep, leave your ignition key in and unlock your steering wheel, you will be pushing and pulling the spindle from left to right loosening the three bolts. Also, you dont have to remove the bearing assembly from teh axle, they can both come out attached.
