'98 4.0 rear main seal leaking-yay, yay, yay
Anything special about doing this I need to be aware of here? Will be replacing oil pump and timing chain, front seal at the same time. Trans. inspection cover is two-piece and the book says to remove-will this be really necessary? The piece where the starter goes LOOKS to be sandwiched between the bell-housing and the block, bt can't really tell-yet. Thanks for any advice, tips, etc.

What engine, and what makes you think it's the rear main seal leaking? The 4.0 is bad for the oil filter adapter o rings leaking and making it look like the rear main seal.

Busted's right. The oil runs back along the oil pan ledge and soaks the back side of the pan. See if the torque convertor cover is oil soaked inside. If not, chances are the seal isn't leaking.
