96 Grand Cherokee
Intermittent stall when you let off the throttle. Replaced IAC twice. It seemed to help short term then problem came back. Changed the TPS and PCV -It ran GREAT for 4 days, then yesterday the idle started acting up again. Its very sloppy and then drops really low. Any thoughts??

Check the hose to the MAP sensor.

 

I have the same issue, 97 zj 5.2... I have replaced the TPS, IAC and was told to replace the clock spring..

 

Any help would be great

 

Either of the Crank or Cam position sensor getting ready to quit. Check connectors first.

 

WHAT! The clock spring only has to do with electrical connections on the steering wheel, like the cruise control buttons, horn, and air bag. It doesn't have anything to do with the engine running.

 

Thank you Cherryokee for your help.. The problem was actually more simple, When I purchased the TPS i told them for a 5.2, They sold me one for a 4.0. When the right TPS was installed the 97 ran great..

I am new to the Cherokee world an am learning of their many quarks.. I myself have recently bought a 96 zj 4.0 and the electric issues are plenty. The info center keeps telling me sensors are bad even though they have been replaced and every time i start the jeep the info center needs to be reset.. Not to mention at night my headlights, blinkers, and internal dash lights will spontaneously start flashing, kinda looks like disco lights.. I need to turn them off and then back on lol.. I love this thing..

 

Crystlenicholas, does any of this help you or has the thread been hijacked? Several things happen when the throttle is suddenly released. The air supply gets cut off, the manifold vacuum goes high, and the PCM cuts back the fuel delivered to an idle mixture. If the Idle Air Controller (IAC) is sticky, it may not deliver the idle air setting quickly enough and the mixture goes lean. If the MAP sensor hose has a leak in it, it may think you're still under power. If that happens, the PCM is still delivering rich fuel settings.

I would start by cleaning the IAC and checking the MAP sensor hose. Things that can be done without spending money on parts. Check ALL your vacuum hoses for cracks or leaks.
