Hi All,
I have a '94 ZJ Laredo, 5.2L. I am having a few issues with it:
1.) Today the ABS light mysteriously came on and stayed on throughout driving it. It's never been on before. What's going on with that?
2.) I have the EVIC, and have been having this problem for awhile. Sometimes, it will display 'SERVICE 4WD SYSTEM'. I know the guy who sold my ZJ to me had a transfer case put in it before I purchased it. The 4WD system (Quadra-Trac) seems to be shifting with no problems. Also, the EVIC for the past few weeks has been lighting up the hood on the diagram. I know my battery needs to be replaced, but is this the reason why the hood is lighting up?
3.) Sometimes when backing up there's a creak noise that seems to be coming from the rear end. The shocks look okay, and it doesn't bother me much, but I'm just wondering why the rear end is making that noise.
If anyone could help me solve these problems, that would be great (:
Thanks!

You actually have to go out and look at the vehicle and diagnose these issues yourself. It can't be done with vague descriptions and over the interwebs.

service 4wd will show up even if you don't need to.
bar along the front of the hood is probably the "coolant sensor bad" message...you haven't seen the VIC say this?
eventually you'll probably get the other incorrect message, "rear lamp failure"
the problem is often with the VIC, happens to pretty much every ZJ eventually, but check on the parts anyway

My 97 ZJ told me my coolant sensor was bad, but after changing it twice, I simply ignored it. My WJ tells me my coolant is low when the level in the overflow bottle is only 1/2 below the full hot mark. I simply fill it to the top of the bottle and it's good for about 2000 miles.

Thanks guys. It doesn't say 'COOLANT SENSOR BAD', but my battery can't hold a charge so could it be the computer sensing a bad battery? The 'REAR LAMP FAILURE!' message shows up, and my left tail lamps is erratic, so I need to fix that, just wasn't going to state the obvious here.

In addition, I saw an EVIC in a Jeep like the one I have in one when I went to pull other parts from it for my Jeep. I may as well go and pull it when I go to the junkyard next (:

You can pull it but most likely that one will be bad to. I just ignore mine for the past two years, now the center is totally dead. Got to find a good use for that empty space lol.

There is a battery temperature sensor underneath the battery that tells the PCM to control alternator output when the battery gets hot. Most people don't even know it's there. It's probably bad. You can change the battery and alternator and still have the problem.
On the tailight. Often times it's the contacts where the bulb goes in or the ground contact in the tailight itself.
