I really don't know, but it seems extreme to have to drop the trans to replace an engine sensor. It's probably on the bellhousing like all the rest of them, I would think. If it's a V8, it can get interesting to get to it. As far as I know, it's on the top of the trans case behind the right (pass) cylinder head. First thing is check the wiring for being burnt by the exhaust.
On the 4.0 I6, it's on the driver's side in the same place.
