So my A/C wasn't working, as in, only the defrost and floor vents worked. Found out that the vacuum hose that passes through the firewall and T's off was broken. No biggie. So I pulled the dash and replaced it(PITA by yourself).

Finish and put the dash back in place, hook all the electrical back up so I can test everything before I bolt it back down and well.....it's STILL only blowing through defrost and floor.

Pull dash back out.

Get to looking around when I realize....

The actuator to open that center vent is gone. Just literally gone. I didn't remove it and the screw (if you look above the yellow vacuum line) has a plastic tab that was broken off on it. How that happens, I'm not sure.

Rigged it up with some 550 cord (I'll appropriately fix this winter when SC cools down) and YAY AC!

Figured I'd just post this as a "Hey! It's unlikely but check to make sure you even have all the components!" in case anyone else was/is having the same issues.

Going out on a limb, you're American correct? Fix it either w/ a hammer, WD-40, duct tape or a bungie cord.

Very clever!

Removing the dash sucks lemons through a garden hose. Doing it twice, wow!

Haha sure am! It's just too hot and humid here in South Carolina to be working in this heat!

Now THAT'S a use for paracord I never thought of! You should have wired a choke control cable to it, then you wouldn't have to rip the dash out again!

I used what was available to me
Luckily though, I can reach it from under the dash so if the paracord doesn't hold up I can rig something else up to open it without reaching up under there.

I had that issue in my old '94 5.2L ZJ... if I still had it I'd fix the issue using your method.
