Default 4 wheel and Injector Questions

I recently purchased a 1997 Grand Cherokee. The Quadratrac does not work. I do not know the history on the Jeep so I don't even know the last time the 4 wheel drive was used. My plan is to lift all 4 wheels off the ground this upcoming weekend. Can you guys give me any advice on things I should look for? How should I go about checking the 4 wheel drive? I've read some of the threads on here but I am still unsure how I would go about checking the 4 wheel drive with all 4 wheels off the ground.

I am also planning on rebuilding the injectors. I am wondering what injectors this vehicle uses (4.0 straight 6). I can find rebuild kits for older Jeeps and newer Jeeps but can not find anything for the year of Jeep I have.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Dave.

Why do you want to rebuild the injectors? It's not really a DIY job to disassemble the injectors and put them back together without leaks or destroying them. It's not like rebuilding a carburetor.

The reason I am thinking of rebuilding the injectors is because I am noticing that I am gaining oil. From what I have read this may be caused by a bad injector that could be leaking. Rebuilding kits are far cheaper than buying a new set of injectors that's why I was playing with the idea of rebuilding the six and going from there. I'm still up in the air on what I may do but I am just looking at options.

I swapped all six of mine from a couple of 95 Dodge Neons for the cost of an O ring kit and brake cleaner. I call it the cargo shorts discount.

Or there are a couple of forum members that will sell you refurbished injectors for around $100.00 and it would be an upgrade. I got mine from XJWONDERS.

Guess I am not so much worried about the injectors as I am more worried about the 4 wheel drive.

Guess I am wondering on how I know everything is in good working order when I have the Jeep up in the air and can spin the tires freely.

If it's Quadratrac, it should be in 4WD all the time. What does the shifter say for selections?

Suppose I should have stated that it is indeed a quadratrac. I have read that if they haven't been used in a while that they may be hard to engage into 4 low. So far I can not get 4 low to work at all. What I am planning on is to lift the vehicle up off the ground and then see if I can get it into 4 low. I am asking for suggestions on what I should do once the vehicle is off the ground. Thanks

Spray the linkage with WD-40 or something like that.
