i got a 1995 grand cherokee with 5.2 and the 249 transfercase is going bad and i was woundering what i need to find or get to do the swap because i got two 242 cases one out of a 93 grand and one out a 96-98 grand i was wounderin wich one will work and untill i get the case in can i take the front shaft out and drive and park thanks to who help

Check this right up also. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f13/t...-np242-685644/ The later case should go right in,but it all depends on the imput shaft. I drove my 97 GC around without the front drive line.

 

but the older one is off a in line 6 will it still work

I was new to it also until the other day. Mine was from a 97 inline 6 GC. I have a 97 v8 GC. I learn more stuff every day off this forum.
