From my experiences with the MGB, I think the only dubious thing the Brits did was put fine threaded studs in the cast block! And Whitworth threads are stone age. We re-threaded all the intake/exhaust studs to UNC course, using Helicoil. Not very British, I know, but you can't win them all.

And talking about tractor motors, wasn't that one's origin with Massey-Ferguson?

Yes, Whitworth AND Lucas are stone age. I may have to go the way of re-threading but, I'll cross that when and if I get to it. Not sure about the Massey Ferguson/MG connection. I know Lamborghini was a tractor maker and Porsche also built tractors at one point in time. Always saw a few Porsche tractors when I went to the Stuttgart Retro-Classic in Germany.

Default New issue

OK, so I replaced the oil pan gasket, oil filter adapter gasket and O-rings and resealed the oil pressure sensor. Still getting a small leak. This being said, it is clearly the rear main seal as the leak is coming out of the transmission bell housing.

Now, replacing the oil pan gasket was a royal pain in the ***! I never did get the oil pan off, I just took off the oil pump pick up assembly and worked around the pan to get the gasket on. So, from what I understand, I can replace the seal without separating the motor and tranny?

Two questions.
1. How the hell do I get the oil pan off? Do I need to drop the front suspension?

2. Anyone ever change out the two piece rear main without separating the motor and trans and if so, some help on how you did it?

Any help would be appreciated.
