Hello, this is my first post. I have been fighting a P0403 code on my daughters Jeep. I replaced the EGR and still get the Code. The jeep runs great, but I want to remove the code. I have performed all the checks for P0403 in the factory service manual except for using a scan tool to make sure the PCM is actually opening the valve. Is there a way to activate the solenoid on and ff without a scan tool? I could just assume its not and that would point to the PCM, but it would be good to know for sure.
I also wonder how the PCM knows the valve is open. I believe it is by the variable position circuit within the EGR. I am concerned that their may be a wiring problem in the positioning circuit which is making it appear that the solenoid circuit is bad. Again a scan tool is recommended.
Any advice or opinions on what to do net is appreciated. I'm thinking of dropping $250 on a PCM, if that does not fix it then I can send it back for about a $65 restocking fee. Heck bringing it to a dealer for troubleshooting will probably cost $65+ and I'm not sure that I put alot of faith in dealer troubleshooting.
TIA
Mike
