2006 cherokee 6 cyl. would not crank then??

2006 cherokee 6 cyl. would not crank then??
car runs fine-stopped for coffe and went to start it and it was dead- all the lights worked - could here starter solenoid click but nothing- took battery out checked it and it was fine- put battery back in and it started right up?? drove home shut it off restarted no problem- what would make it all of a sudden not work, then work fine- thks
