2004 Cherokee 6cyl starting issue
Hey guys,
I just had a problem start up with my jeep that first happened a couple weeks ago while I was driving down the road the engine just died for no reason.... I just put it in neutral ( while still coasting down the road ) and it started right back up so I just thought it was a fluke thing but then later in the week I took the kids to the fair and it ran fine ( bout an hour drive ) when we went to leave the fair it wouldnt start... the engine turned over, battery is good, heard the fuel pump, but it did sound like the engine was turning over a little fast ( maybe cuz this has never happened before and I just never heard how fast the engine cycles from the starter ) after about five minutes of turning the key off and on it started right up and ran fine all the way home.. So im wondering if anyone has had this problem before and what people may think it could be.. Im thinking crank sensor, cam sensor, coil packs? anyway any help would be greatly appreciated..

First things first. You need to need to let us know year model and engine size. You do say that it's a 04 so I am assuming that it a grand cherokee which mean that you are posting in the wrong section. You need to post this in the correct section since all Jeep are not the same.

shutting down without any other symptoms could be failing fuel pump that intermittently dies, but usually that will be a slow sputter and die. Fast shut off could be more sensor related. Have you checked to see if there are any codes?

No slow sputter just died.. I have not checked for any codes yet, will do that this weekend.. I'm sure it is a sensor, just wanted to see if anyone has an idea or if it has happened to anyone else..

You can also get the codes with the key switch method. Turn your key on, off, on, off, on and wait. The codes will appear in the mileage display.
