Default 2001 gc door issue ??

The drivers door won't stay in the open position like it should when open.... it will just swing shut..... I'm sure something broke inside but not sure what??? Around the same time there was a sound of something rolling around in the door. This weekend I removed the door panel and extracted a ball bearing that was rolling in there. Maybe the two are related?? Any reason my door wants to swing shut and not stay in the open position? If so, how do I fix it? Is it the door check?

Thanks in advance.

RIZ

Thanks Dave - I was thinking nobody wanted to help me.

I found out it was the door check.

Sorry Riz, I've been a bit busy lately. Was it popping and snapping before it stopped holding it open? Lack of lube will do that. It's something most people don't even think about.

Just before Union Carbide started making WD-40, CRC Corp. was making CRC 5-56 which was the same as WD-40 except it had some lubricating oil in it as well. It was only available as a liquid and not as a spray. My boss at the Exxon station kept a pump can full to use as a chassis lube and he'd squirt all the rubber bushings in the suspension, door latches, and hinges with that. People were amazed at the lack of squeaks after he did that. Since then, I use a pump can of engine oil to lube the door latches and hinges on my own cars. I HATE replacing door hinge pins!
