My WJ had been running fine, did some shopping, came back to the parking lot and it wouldn't start - turns over fine, initially the engine fired but spluttered and stopped. Called out the mechanic who plugged in a fault code reader but this showed up nothing. Then he checked for a spark - all good, plugs dry so engine not flooded, then he checked the port on the fuel rail - nothing came out so no fuel pressure but the pump runs when ignition is switched on. Fuel tank approx. 1/4 full.
Mechanic reckons the fuel pump sounds a bit noisy.
If the pump runs, why no fuel pressure ?
Possibly a blocked filter ?


Any other possibilities ?


Jeep had to be taken to a garage on a recovery truck but they have not yet had time to look at it.

 

Now fixed.
Faulty fuel pump.
although pump was running it was noisy and there was no fuel pressure - assume the impeller had broken on the motor shaft.
