Default 1999 GC shocks

I need to replace the F & R shocks and wondered of you guys could recommend what type / brand to look for, where to buy, and any problems I might encounter switching them out myself. I don't want to lift the vehicle at all, just want the ride to be smooth and keep the new snow-tires where they belong. Is it worth letting a shop switch them or is it an easy driveway job as I think it might be? I do NOT have the up country option (tow pkg, correct?) and the car has the Quadra Trac AWD option. I have the Hayne's manual and it seems easy enough but someone out there might know better. TIA

I'm running BDS shocks and am quite happy with them. I've got the ones for an XJ in the rear due to their smaller diameter and the small amount of clearance between the shock body and the sidewall of my tires in the rear. Been using them just over a year now with no problems or complaints.

there are many options for shocks, do a little reasearch and you find what you are looking for. Replacing the shocks is a very simply job, no reason to pay a shop to do it, easy driveway job. I have power tools, took me about an hour, + or -...

MX6s are a great upgrade, kolak can set you up for probably around $200 for a set, give him a yell at kolak@aol.com I do not think he frequents this board but does many others and is a jeep guru. MX6s are mhigh pressure nitrogen charged monotubes that offer 6 way adjustable compression dampening and are very nice in my opinion.
