So. Ive had this bad problem with hesitation at driving speed. So I replaced cps, complete tune up, etc.
Well I STILL had p1391 code, so I figured id replace the camshaft pos. sensor too. Well, thats when I finally realized I have an engine out of a 2000 & up in my 1998. I got in touch with thid guy I know, and he told me about advancing the timing 20 degrees in an attempt to trick the computer. Anyone ever heard of a similar problem?

^X2, unless that "Mechanic" is talking about removing the distributor and then rotating it before reinstalling it.
And that sounds like to me.

so, the way its been explained to me is like this... theres two tabs on the inside of the dist. you take it out, file down the tabs on the dist. and he took an old dist. cap with a "window" cut out of it, and adjusted it to .020 and it runs like an animal now. i know it seems far fetched, but im gonna try and get a copy of the svc bulletin, and of course, ill post it.

a little more about my zj.... its a 98 w/ a 2000 up engine. so, the guy before me decided to put in this engine. of course, many problems begin.
As everyone knows, the 2000 and up 4.0s dont have a standard coil, or dist. Theres wire splices on the coil, the camshaft pos. sensor (pick up coil). i did the research, and found out that the current setup i have now has the zj in "limp" mode. if anybody else knows ANY other way.... im all ears. im ready to punt.
