I've done some searching but I really don't know what I'm looking for. In my mind, I would call this the 'gear selector shift linkage'. It is the linkage from my main automatic gear selector to the transmission. Over the weekend, it disconnected disallowing any gear selection. Looks like the nipple on the end has corroded badly, not sure if I need a whole new linkage or not.
I wrapped it in electrical tape to just get it home, but I'm not really sure what I need to replace here.
Can anyone help me figure out what the part is called, and what I need to order?
Thanks!
Fortunately I paused prior to tearing into your topic w/ my chastisement on your repair, because I discovered your location is Canada. In America that repair would be performed w/ duct tape, not black electrical tape.
The end on that shifter cable pops on or off the spherical joint on the transmission shifter arm. The cable end has a flexible catch to grab the spherical joint.
If it is not retaining properly then the part must be replaced. There might be vendors selling just the end, or swap out the whole cable.
It is likely that the cable adjustment must be performed after service. The FSM details a special tool. I have never seen that tool.
My recollection is that someone is making reproduction throttle cable ends, for a similar failure / repair. I haven't seen those reproduction parts for this cable end.

I am very accustomed to duct tape fixes - but this was the first tape I could find. Thanks for all of your responses, I will follow your suggested links.
