Hello I have some questions about possible bad Trans Torque converter. I have 4.0 motor with 42RE trans. Jeep runs fine. Shifts fine if I can get the jeep moving but 75% of the time the jeep stalls hard when I put it in forward gear and this is not happening all the time but has been getting worse over the past two months. I am talking a stall just like if you had a manual trans and dumped clutch while hard on brake. The Jeep stalls hard. Also about 2 months ago I noticed the trans/flywheel area making noises like a bad throwout bearing on a manual trans when I go up hills and the trans down shifts. I am certain this is NOT a issue with the wiring, connections or sensors. Tomorrow I will be testing the Trans solenoids with a friend and his multimeter skills and I have good info how to test it. I will also check out the filter and inspect for metal in fluid etc... I am almost 100% positive I have a bad torque converter. Jeep is stalling hard about 75% of the time when I put in in gear. All the reading google has provided me tells me the trans is fine and converter is shot....I will now open this for discussion as sometime I need help

Welcome to CF!

It sounds like the converter clutch is locked up. The noise you hear is probably a cracked flexplate because of the sudden stoppage when it stalls, or broken converter bolts. This could be caused by a bad converter clutch solenoid, wiring causing it not to release the lock-up pressure, or the converter clutch itself.

The converter only get 5-75 psi lube pressure unless the TCC solenoid is engaged, then it sees full line pressure. You can probably only gauge this pressure in a cooling line because I don't see any other test port for this. The way I see it is if you have full line pressure in a cooling line with the engine running in neutral, replace the TCC solenoid. If you only see lube pressure, replace the converter. JMHO however.
