'05 Laredo hot start issues
Hey all,
I am new to this forum and also new to jeeps. Our family friends got a used 2005 Laredo recently and it's had troubles since day one. Since I am the family mechanic and they take good care of us, I decided to tackle the problem. I'm not by any means new to automotive repairs, but this is the first Jeep I've worked with so I figured I'd start with the forums to find some common issues with these cars. So the Jeep occasionally won't start when hot. It'll turn over just fine but it won't even putter. Once it's given some time to cool down, it'll start. When I mean occasionally, I mean at least once a day. They took it to the mechanic we all take our vehicles to for typical maintanence and whatnot, and he found nothing. Told them to take it to the dealer, and he is an excellent mechanic, so that tells me something. The dealer ended up charging them $600 to replace a "cut wiring harness" but they won't tell us which one they replaced. Problem wasn't solved. Thats where I stepped in, because I hate seeing people pay a mechanic to "fix" their car only to find that nothing has changed. I will be taking it with me to work tomorrow to see if I can catch it when it dies. So far, all I've done is plug in my scanner to see if any codes were stored. No codes. So, I had her take the scanner with her today and see if she can pull anything when the car acts up. Still nothing. I can't find any prior reports on the car and nothing is popping out at me. Is there anything specific I should look for? It's strange because the car has no stored codes, it only does it occasionally, and there are no other symptoms of it running rough or anything. (I drove it once but couldn't get it to act up.) Thanks in advance! Also, it's a 3.7 v6 auto trans.

Having the same issue
I recently purchased a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7L and am having the same issues that you mentioned. I'm curious if you figured out what was causing the issue? I've already put over $400 into trying to figure the problem out. Hopefully you can help me out

Sounds like a crank or cam position sensor issue, might set a DTS code, might not.

I've replaced both the cam shaft and crank shaft sensors. I think it was my water pump because it was bad as well. Currently trying to get the coil packs off of the passenger side because they're seized on. I'm pretty sure the spark plugs have never been changed.
