'04 WJ Adjust Bands with Trans Service...or not?
2004 WJ, 4.0, 2WD with I think the 42RE transmission. I have a new trans pan with a drain plug that I want to put on, new OEM gasket, ATF+4, and new filter. the big burning question is...should I adjust the bands when I'm in there? I've been reading many reports online of drivers having problems AFTER adjusting the bands so I'm considering doing the trans service without the band adjustment. What do you think? Who's doing their adjustments, who's not?
The WJ's my wifes family vehicle/commuter vehicle, sees occasional towing, 3000lb boat about twice a month, short tow in town.

Old fart with a wrench
IDK if this helps but my 2000 WJ 4.0 has 230K miles on it and had several fluid services in it's life and I've never adjusted the bands. It's still performing perfectly. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

In order to adjust the band, you have to remove the valve body and apply air pressure to the right port. It is not the kind of thing the average mechanic is capable of. I have an FSM and I don't think I would want to trky it

...on a 42re trans? I don't remember reading about that step in the procedure.
