Off topic question. First of all love your build. I have a 2001 limited in the same color. Just wondering what antenna you have. I didn't have any luck with the Antenna X offroad antenna from Amazon because it didn't have the right mounting hardware. But yours has a different base. Any details would be appreciated!

Did Napier louvers on mine, next is to paint the outer sections and center back to factory color.

Thank you. After researching all of them, picked these because they advertised the least amount water reaching the engine.

Ok holy crap. Super update alert. Sipping on some voodoo ranger while seriously overwhelmed by building a 6.0 V8 without any prior knowledge! Woo!

So for $1000 I picked up this 2013 L96, 6l90e and MP1225 tcase allegedly from a Chevy Silverado 2500HD. This one has the square port heads (5364) and is a Gen 4. Seller claims that it was under 100K miles but it looked like half of those miles were under water once I took it apart. Considering that I went into this build without much knowledge about rebuilding an engine except for what mI could gather from the #LSXJ posts on instagram and a book that I picked up on amazon, I would say that if I could do it again, I would likely pass on this engine.

The harness looked like it has been eaten by squirrels, the intake manifold came with nothing except the manifold, 6 of the 8 ignition coils were busted, the AC compressor was dead, the starter was beat up, and it didnt turn, among other things. But what did I know?!

The tear down was gruesome. I wish I had labeled the fasteners better. I think I'll get "hindsight is 20/20" tattooed on me soon

I ended up drying everything out, soaking with penetrant and getting everything torn down enough to take to the local machine shop. They were impressed that I picked up a 6.0 with LS3 square port heads for the price that I did

For more than double what I paid for the entire drive train, they sauced everything up (head/valve job, decked, tanked, bored and honed etc). Decided to keep everything stock for now

I continue to feel pretty overwhelmed with this build and will likely far exceed the financial and time expenses that I had originally thought that would cover this swap. I wax and wane between pushing forward and selling it altogether. Currently have the transmission and transfer case for sale on facebook as I think it would be simpler to use a 4l80e and the stock transfer case. I am concerned for when I need to address my 3 link which includes my transmission crossmember as idk what Im going to do if things need fabricating. We shall see. Any tips or words of wisdom would be helpful

What could possibly go wrong? I give you a lot of credit for getting this far and I have been impressed with what you did on your other projects. However, do you really want to torture yourself for the next 6 months to a year? You will be tying up lots more time and money trying to: get that thing into a jeep, get it running, get it connected to the rest of the drive train, deal with the extra heat generated, deal with the wiring harness. In all fairness I have little knowledge of this engine or what such a swap involves so you can disregard my hesitation to encourage this madness.

I sincerely wish you the best if you proceed and I can’t wait to see how it goes.

Update: I read some of the Novak engine swap info. Interesting. They make it sound so straight forward and problem free.

This has certainly been a question that I have been waffling with for the last few months. I think the answer is yes because I think once its all said and done it will be worth it, and my most favorite hobby is working on my jeep. But I am fearful of time and money sunk and not getting it done in a reasonable time. But we shall see...

That motor looked rough. But it cleaned up real nice!

Also Im glad more and more people are pushing the envelope of engine swaps. Thats whats fun about swapping in a new motor is learning about everything and how it all works (or sometimes doesnt work lol).

In my opinion? SEND IT. Id throw a 5.3/5.7/6.0 in my rig if I could. Or maybe a Cummins 2.8 (when they come down in price obviously ha!)

The LSX forums are going to be your best friend for parts and wiring help.

I say do it, my plan is to use my LS1 out of my camaro that's been sitting and you've already put money into the swap. Just collect all the parts you need to do the swap then swap it in once you have everything for it to run. Nice build btw

Figured it was the next step after the axle swaps and all... although i fear for their integrity after this. I actually just emailed Novak asking about harnesses

Probably gonna be a while. I plan on spreading out the parts purchases so the monetary hit doesn't hurt as much. Single income house hold and all. I did jut buy a second XJ that came with F&R D44s, 8" LA lift and a ton of other mods but I'm pretty sure the engine is toast. Seems like a perfect victim to do the swap.
