The Rise of Derek: Magnum
Been active on this forum for a few years but have never posted a build thread because there wasn't really anything special about my XJ. His name is Derek and I love him very much. He's a 2000 grey sport 4.0 with 165K miles. Got him junior year of college and the day after I bought him the power steering box crapped out and I couldn't turn left lol (Derek Zoolander couldn't turn left).
Currently sitting on 3 inch lift, AAL in the rear, 31 inch Firestone destination ATs that are just about ready to be swapped out for some better tires.
Current mods off the top of my head:
- Aforementioned lift
- Oversized oil filter
- 784 injectors
- Cowl air intake
- Brown dog motor mounts
- H4 headlight upgrade with harness upgrade
- 62mm bored throttle body
- XJWonders upgraded battery cables
- SYE
- 5K lbs hitch
- New windshield
- JCR sliders
That's all I can think of for now as far as things I've modded. Now for plans for the future!
I just recently entered the working mans life so I have had some cash to spend. The plan is for 35 inch tires on 4.5 inches of lift.
What I have so far:
- SYE and new to me double carden drive shaft is in with new UJoints in
- Bilstein 5100s
- HD Offroad shackle relocation brackets (lift)
- New to me 4.5 inch coils
- Track bar relocation mount
Just yesterday I made a deal with a jeeper in Lubbock Texas for a HPD30 with 4.56 Yukon gears, Lokka ratchet locker and rustys one ton steering, Chrysler 8.25 with 4.56 Yukon gears, Lokka ratchet locker, and 4 35 inch BFG MTRs with 15 inch black wheels included. Exciting stuff!! It'll ship out Monday next and hopefully be here by the end of the month. Plans are to make the axles look pretty and updated and then pop them in! Sounds easy enough.
tldr: I've had my jeep a while, it's got some minor upgrades but it's time to step it up.
At work now but I'll attempt to post whatever pics that I can!

All I can say is with those fender and the new tires is Hmm Bump-stops! My buddy put his new axles in and bought some 35" ProComp tires and couldn't wait to take it up wheeling (I was trying to help him get his bump-stops on but life got in the way) He trashed his fenders and tore up one of the tires to the point that now it will be his spare.
Looking forward to seeing some great wheeling pics. in the future!

Starting to second guess picking up axles that have lockers for a rig I'll likely drive on the street more than offroad. Never had lockers before, will the lunch box lockers make street driving bad?

you would really have to change your driving style because of the locker. Mainly around tight turns, turning from a stop, parking lots, haven't experienced it in the rain yet but I've heard stories of the tail end trying to drift in heavy rain...
