It was hard to leave behind...

I understand and well as long as its in good hands it will be there when you return

Default Minor Milestone

OK, kind of a milestone here one week in..Headliner down, seats out and most of the slimy carpet and matt are out.. Not bad. More rust than anticipated on the right had (Driver side)..After pulling up the left side it looked pretty good.
But right side for some reason had more rust....Found a couple rot holes.. not big, but I haven't started grinding.. fingers crossed.
For anybody about to pull up your carpet for the 1st time...Be carefull WHERE YOU CUT....Jeep seems to run wires in the oddest places in my opinion.. I got VERY lucky....I couldn't find my utility knife. Went to hardware to get a knew one.
Looking at knife and blades I saw these hooked/pull blades.. ( sorry about pic)..and in a moment of clarity I thought, pulling up carpet ? Pull blades ???...!!! Damn I could have really caused myself some anguish here..
Gonna rain here all weekend..I know where Ill be....

Nice work those floors don't look too bad. I also cut out that rubber mat up in firewall area and tossed mine. Not saying others need to I just had to get up there to clean up some surface rust and bedliner under it so it made it easier to just remove. Not even sure what its there for. I could think of a few reasons but honestly have no idea.

Keep the press on looking good!

Default Head Gasket leak ? Test

Hi , Guys and Gals,
Ok ,Picture is an update on Red Mess...I'm doing testing, and as I am waiting for motor to warm up or while testing,Ive been cleaning...Looking better no ?
So ,when I bought this I thought motor was blown...But I was able to get it going with a little shove down the intake manifold....Added oil, added water, added Seafoam, to oil and Intake manifold...
Been running it every night for 15 to 20 minutes..( cant drive it rotors still locked)
Seems to be running well....Being told it was blown has me skeptical ....Was told to check for a blown head gasket. Bought a Lislie Coolant/combustion leak detector...Supposed to detect carbon monoxide in coolant.
Came up negative....But that detects CM in coolant, couldnt coolant still be leaking into combustion chambers ? A one way leak ? Coolant out and no gas in ??? is that possible..

I would get a compression tester and maybe even pull the valve cover to inspect for sludge / coolant traces. Glad to hear it's purring nice though

X2 above! Sometimes though people assume they know what they are talking about and will say motor is toast but really have no clue. Or some shop told them that to get them to pay more money on repairs and instead of getting second opinion or third they believe and sell it based on year of vehicle. Hopefully you get that lucky!

Coolant runs under 20 psi thanks to the rad cap, oil runs from 20 to 80 psi, and compression of the cylinder should be 120-150 psi. There is no way any fluid is overcoming the pressure created in the cylinder. If the HG is blown there will be exhaust gases in your coolant and/or crank case and compression will not be within tolerance (30psi)

Thanks guys for your feedback...I will get a pressure tester......I was going to retest coolant for CM...Any recommendations on warm up time before testing?

Not sure about everyone else but I have had good success with my HF special compression tester. I never found the need to buy a high end one but feel free to spend your $ as you see fit. After all you do want to ensure your getting accurate readings. Mine was a kit that came with a few adapters to accomadate different spark plug hole sizes.

Thumbs up Red Mess Deliveries

Today was a good shipment day.......
In the pic you'll see the missing window front left... That came today ! On top of the Jeep there are my old seats, and a box containing my new inside door panels.!! Mine were nasty with a tear .
I would lay them out and show you a pic,but Ive taken over a good part of the garage already, and to start laying out auto parts in the living room might be pushing my luck right now..
... I am converting to hand cranks from power windows.. So I needed new panels anyhow.... My other Jeep is a cranker. One less thing to go wrong......I may have some electrical challenges ahead on RM, so eliminating some right off the bat makes sense to me...

Default Head Gasket leak

Its official. Blown head gasket or cracked head....140-90-120-90-70-130 with oil on sparkplugs 4 and 5----two of the worst readings.. I cant believe it runs as well as it does....
So now....new head? refurb? used ?.....Time for some internet searching...
