Yea it looks bad now but trust me you get all that water and rust up clean it up real good and prime it lay down some quality bed liner material you will be golden for a very long time. Probably last longer than you will keep jeep. You can always put down some chassis saver but since your rust is minimal at most I don't think I would bother.

Hey cheer up! This looks like a fun project! Aside from the brakes, the fronts are a piece of cake, the rear drum brakes will make you want to set it on fire. The rust doesn't seem that bad. Looks like you should just pressure wash every nook and cranny and go from there.

If you have junkyards near you then you can get pretty much anything and everything you need for dirt cheap. Whenever something breaks, I first check my local pick-n-pull and if it's not worth getting or nothing is available i'll check craigslist for part-outs, then i'll buy new.

It could be a really fun summer project. A ton of TLC for sure, but try it out for a while. Hopefully the motor ends up running good for you.

Default Sitting for 3 years ? How Bout 8

When I went to look , I was told it hadn't been moved in 3 years...And I knew it was filthy inside, but looking at those brakes ? I decided to look closer at license tabs...2010....
It MIGHT not have been moved in 3 years, but it hasn't been on the road for 8 years....1/3 of this poor Jeeps life has been spent sitting in the yard.... It will rise again

Default Garage

SO , I get it home, and its sitting in driveway with locked front rotors...Its up on jacks and I'm working on it.. I overheard my wife talking to her sister, saying the red jeep is actually pretty cool.
SO, I said , Im glad you think the Jeep is cool.... She said " Yeh well, it will be much cooler when it is in the garage."
I couldn't have agreed more

Never better when the other half agrees on things that work in our favor! My wife has come out in the garage the past couple days watching and asking if I need help. Love it! I had her help me put on the rear hatch of my new Jeep which in turn we removed new one and put old one back on anyhow. Regardless her willing to put some interest in it is good in my book. Rather than hate it she is trying to understand and learn

Only part is when they offer to help then walk away to get shoes only to not return for lik 30 mins and your waiting and waiting and waiting and then give up lol Yep she did that to me but wasn't her fault the kids got to her once she went into the house.

Default Over my head

Well , if there was any doubt before...I am for sure over my head...Taking down the headliner, this is what i found on the visor attachments...If this corrosion is any indication of what my electrical looks like...( and I believe it is )
I'm staring down a complete rewire .... Well I have accomplished some of my best things when over my head....

So question I have for you and before you answer just know that I support your decision and enjoy this build. So why did you choose this jeep over many others in better shape? Cost, project you wanted, etc?

Red face Mess

Well, because it was red !!! NO,just kidding. Cost was a big factor. I had just bought a Jeep in November, put a bunch of money in it and left it in Baja. So I had to tread lightly on the family finances .In the long run it will probably cost the same if I had bought a Jeep in better condition. I WAS looking for a project. I really enjoyed my time in the garage with the last one. Its got good bones. little bit of surface rust on inside, no rust or rot on outside.. And it was nearby. Just 20 miles away. If I was going to have something towed or trailered ,being over here in Kitsap County was a plus..
That was my thinking on this purchase.

And the one left in Baja California will be there whenever you go there to visit I imagine?

Yes the green one was bought specifically for that purpose. For the road trip, and to have a 4 wheeler down there when we go in late fall....you cant reasonably rent a 4 wheel down there, and that's really the only thing to drive . 80% of the roads are dirt or worse.
It was hard to leave behind...
